SkidGrip L246 is a repair system for anti-skid surfaces which comes as a self-contained kit and includes sufficient methyl methacrylate resin and aggregate, along with protective gloves, mixing and application tools. The system is ideal for reinstating anti-skid and High Friction Surfaces (HFS) after utilities works. The kits are simple to use and ideal for issue to reinstatement crews to allow works to be completed in one visit with a controlled, rapid curing system, providing a tough and durable product with a long service life.
Features and Benefits
- Catalyst controlled, rapid curing - open to traffic in 1 hour
- Non-toxic binder system
- Tough and durable with a long service life
- Supplied as complete ‘all in one tub’ solution for simplicity
- No specialist equipment required - within the scope of all reinstatement gangs
The application surface should be sound and clean, free from grease, oil, rust, scale, dirt, or any other soiling that might affect adhesion or performance. In any case, but especially in the case of overcoating existing surface treatments, it is further recommended that test areas be coated to ensure good adhesion and/or compatibility with the substrate.
Asphalt – weathered - It is recommended that asphalt and other similar surfaces should not be coated until surface oxidisation has taken place, we suggest 28 days.
Asphalt - new and tarmacadam - use Meon UltraNuvo primer to prime the surface before application of SkidGrip L246. Enables immediate application.
Concrete and other cementitious surfaces, including powerfloat, tamped or brushed concrete - Ensure surface is sound, clean and free from laitance. We recommend a preparation method suitable for the specific location and surface is carried out before application of product, to ensure surface is properly prepared back to clean and sound substrate.
New concrete should be left to harden before coating, as the curing process and residual moisture content can lead to product delamination if coated too early.
All concrete surfaces should be primed with Meon UniPrime
L250 before application of SkidGrip L246. For areas smaller than 5m2 Meon UniPrime X250 can be used.
Steel Substrates: All steel surfaces must be shot blasted and primed with Meon UniPrime W255 within 24 hours for best adhesion and to prevent the build-up of any rust.
ScratchCote requirements - SkidGrip L246 packs are designed for small-area reinstatements and there is a generous allowance of resin supplied, to allow for some resin loss into texture of substrate. ScratchCote is therefore not generally required.
It is essential that the mixing operation is carried out thoroughly, with a mechanical mixer. Stir the resin component thoroughly first. Then add the appropriate amount of catalyst and continue mixing with a slow- speed stirrer for 2-3 minutes and apply immediately.
This product is supplied ready to use and must not be thinned.
Mask the area to be reinstated. Pour mixed resin onto surface and spread evenly using a 4mm serrated squeegee or the applicator supplied with kit. Take care to cover all areas and allow resin to flow flat. Broadcast aggregate over surface until fully covered, ensuring no resin remains exposed. Remove any masking tape immediately. Once resin has fully cured, lightly brush surface to remove all excess aggregate.
Do not apply when the air or surface temperature is below 5°C or less than 3°C above dew point, or if this is likely to occur during the curing period.
Do not apply when there is rain, mist, fog, or snow imminent; when humidity is high or the surface is wet with condensation or likely to be during the drying period.
POT LIFE: 15-20 minutes @ 20°C
CURING TIME:30-60 minutes at 20°C
Data is dependant on ambient temperature and catalyst dosage.
